STRATEGIC PLANNING AND
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Development of strategic plans including data-driven SWOT analyses for county health departments, state agency programs, a non-profit, and a university partnership.
  • Technical assistance for over 20 First 5 Children and Families Commissions in strategic planning, staff development, and evaluation planning.
  • Identification of revenue-building strategies for a multi-state corporation.
  • Market research for new educational products and services for a teaching institution.
  • Market research and cost analysis for a new health venture for a medical corporation.
  • Job analysis, duty statements, and organizational restructuring for various non-profits and a statewide association.
  • Development of primary care and public health clinical practice standards for 2 managed care organizations.
  • Provider recruitment for a state-funded program, including pilots with 2 medical residency programs.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Team leader for a 2-year, $2 million state-funded public health emergency preparedness assessment, involving development of the scoring rubric and leading teams of experts in onsite assessments in 56 of California’s 58 counties.
  • Design and management of Sierra Health Foundation’s 3-year, $3.3 million Prenatal Care Access Initiative which made 42 grants in 26 northern California counties.
  • Technical assistance for over 20 First 5 Children and Families Commissions in strategic planning, staff development, and evaluation planning.

EVALUATION AND STUDIES:

  • Evaluation of a 4-year, $7M First 5 California Oral Health Initiative.
  • Evaluation of a countywide in-home support services project for seniors.
  • Evaluation of a training program by the California Dental Association to help dental professionals identify and respond appropriately to suspected violence among patients.
  • Evaluation of a 3-year project to create hospital guidelines for appropriate intervention for irreversibly ill patients.
  • Evaluation of a local First 5 commission program.
  • Evaluation of a county Tobacco Use Reduction Program.
  • Study in LA County on level and timeliness of reimbursement by managed care plans for out-of-plan services.
  • Study of technology capacity in 400 medical offices for the California Medical Association.
  • Statewide study on needs and service capacity concerning perinatal substance abuse for State MCH Directors, including a policy convening on results.

NEEDS ASSESSMENTS:

  • Comprehensive countywide and regional community health needs assessments involving collection and analysis of primary data (focus groups, interviews, surveys) and secondary data for 2 large foundations, 4 counties and 3 hospital collaboratives to meet SB 697 requirements.
  • Needs assessment for culturally and linguistically appropriate services for Medi-Cal plan members of 4 managed care dental plans, with operational plans developed to implement change.
  • Statewide needs assessment for reproductive health services required by Title X.
  • Needs assessment and development of a strategic plan for a county Head Start program.
  • Needs assessment for Indian health services in Los Angeles County.
  • Development of standards and an assessment tool for measuring core public health capacities and resources, conducted onsite in 7 county healthy department assessments.

RFP DEVELOPMENT AND GRANTMAKING STRATEGIES:

  • Design of statewide funding initiatives.
  • Development of RFPs, proposal reviews, and management of the contract awards process for First 5s, state agencies, and foundations funders.
  • Analysis of grantmaking operations, and a retrospective analysis of the impact of $68 million in grants for a Napa Valley wine auction.

GRANT WRITING:

  • Development of proposals and grant applications for more than 20 government and private organizations, funded for regional, statewide and bi-national projects for AIDS/HIV risk reduction, TB, dental education, maternal child health programs, early childhood education, and social service programs.

TRAINING AND MEETING FACILITATION:
